Goethes Gartenhaus
Gardens & Parks
Goethe's Garden House was acquired by Goethe in 1776. He had the house repaired and redesigned the garden. It was an important refuge for him, where he could work undisturbed.
The house is located in the Park an der Ilm, an English landscape garden, which in itself is part of a substantial greenway along the river and include also the park of the Belvedere Castle and the park of Tiefurt Castle.
Goethe's garden not only supplied his household with vegetables and fruit, but was also a social meeting point.
The restored house, with original furniture, pictures, manuscripts, drawings..., and garden are open to the public.
