Bom Jesus do Monte is a sanctuary garden, dating back to 1373. The building of the present Sanctuary started in 1722. In the 19th century, the grounds around the church were transformed into a park with fountains and topiary.
There is also a funicular, linking the city of Braga to the hill, being the first one to be built and still in use, on the Iberian Peninsula.
