Devin Castle - Bratislava City Museum

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
Devin Castle is beautifully located on top of a high cliff above the confluence of the Danube and the Morava rivers, which form the border with Austria. Today, important restorations works have been carried out and the castle hosts an interesting museum, being part of the Bratislava City Museum.

There is a permanent exhibition 'Devín Castle in the 13th - 20th century', located in the underground cave spaces of the Upper Castle, whereas the Renaissance Palace of the castle hosts an exhibition about the history of Devin Castle.

Devin Castle was already fortified since the Bronze and Iron Age, and later by the Celts and Romans. In the 13th century, a stone castle was built and later extended, whereas in the Renaissance palace was added in the 15th century.

The last private owners of the Devín Castle were the Counts Palffy.
