Dewstow House dates back to before 1804, whereas the exotic and mystical gardens, were developed around 1895. They were actually lost and forgotten due the fact that they had been buried after WW II.
In 2000 the gardens were rediscovered and subsequently restored as the visitors can admire today. There are tunnels, undergroud grottoes, ponds, rock garden, an alpine garden, tropical glass houses...
