Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Georgium palace is a neo-classical country house built for Prince Johann Georg (1748–1811) by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff, from 1780 onwards. It houses the Anhalt Picture Gallery with a rich collection of German and Dutch old master paintings.

The collection includes works by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Albrecht Dürer. The extensive collection of prints and drawings are displayed in the "Fremdenhaus" (lit. Guest House) at the Georgium.

The palace is surrounded by an extensive English garden with several monuments, romanticising structures and sculptures such as the above mentioned "Fremdenhaus", the Roman Ruin, the Monopteros (a circular temple in Ionic order), two copies of antique archways and the statue of Prince Franz in classical dress. It is part of the Dessau-Wörlitz Realm, a UNESCO Heritage site, one of the first and largest English parks in Germany and continental Europe.

Today the gardens are looked after by Dessau City Council.
