Lytes Cary Manor

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Lytes Cary Manor is a medieval manor, surrounded by an Arts and Crafts garden. It has been the family home of Sir Henry Lyte, author of the Niewe Herball (1578). The house has been carefully restored by Sir Walter Jenner (1860 - 1948), in the 20th century.

The house contains a fine collection of oak furniture, portraits and 17th century Flemish tapestries, mainly from Sir Walter's son.

The garden is divided in different garden rooms, and has a magnificent collection of topiary and herbaceous borders. Peaceful walks on the estate are recommended.
