The Valencian Institute of Modern Art, opened in 1989, is features an important permanent exhibition of 20th century art and photography, and offers also temporary exhibitions, discussions, courses and conferences, workshops and concerts.

It has two spaces: the Centre Julio González, a new building which opened in 1989, and the Board of the Wall in the remains of the former Medieval fortifications of the city. The latter is used for temporary exhibitions.
