9th Fort of the Kaunas Fortress

The 9th Fort of the Kaunas Fortress is part of the Kaunas Fortress, constructed and improved between 1882 and 1915, and build as a protection of the Russian Emipre in the west. During the Soviet occupation it was a prison, whereas during the German occupation many Jews and others were executed here.
Today the fort itself houses a museum about the German occupation.
The new modern building contains a separate museum about the Soviet period and Lithuania's struggle for independence.
In the third place there is the large and impressive monumental Soviet-era memorial.
