Castle Albrechtsburg

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Castle Albrechtsburg dates back to the 10th century, but the present building was erected in the 15th century by Elector Ernest of Saxony and his younger brother Albert the Bold. Today it is a museum dedicated in particular to the history of porcelain.

The castle is known by the public for its location for the "Royal-Polish and Electoral-Saxon Porcelain Manufactor", the famous Meissen porcelain, founded in 1710 King by Augustus II the Strong. It  was the first European hard-paste porcelain manufacture. The production was invented and supervised by Böttger. The porcelain was produced at the Albrechtsburg until 1863 when the production was moved to its present location.
