Château de Grignan

Château de Grignan is a magnificent Renaissance castle and became famous by the letters of the Marchioness de Sévigné to her daughter, the Countess de Grignan, in the 17th century. Madame de Sévigné adored the place and died here in 1696.
At the end of the 18th and during the 19th century the castle was very much neglected and partially destroyed until it was reconstructed by Marie Fontaine in the first half 20th century. It is in public hands since 1979 and used for visits and cultural events such as concerts and the open air "Fêtes nocturnes du château de Grignan" every summer in July and August.
