The Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, opened in 1881, is dedicated to the unique history and culture of the city of Inverness and the Scottish Highlands. The collections and subjects are extensive.
For example, you can learn about the natural history and geology of Scotland, the Pictish Stones, the importance of Gaelic language and culture, Inverness and the Middle-Ages. Furthermore there are the famous silver collection, the Stuart portraits, Highland weapons and bagpipes, music and the displays related to more modern times.
The rich collection of paintings, ranges from the 18th century to the present day. One of the highlights is a portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stuart attributed to Pompeo Batoni.
