Museum of Farming Life & Pitmedden Garden

Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Pitmedden House as we see it today was built in 1860, however the estate is much older. The house and garden were originally created for Sir Alexander Seton of Pitmedden, 1st Baronet, Lord Pitmedden (1639-1719) and his wife Dame Margaret Lauder.

The estate was given to the National Trust for Scotland in 1952 by Major James Keith.

The original garden was destroyed by fire in 1818 and has been redesigned and restored by the Trust. It has a formal walled parterre garden, extensive herbaceous borders, fountains, topiary, and a herb garden.

The garden is surrounded by woods with abundant wildlife.

The adjacent Museum of Farming Life is housing an extensive collection of domestic and agricultural artefacts.
