Jaergerpris Castle

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres, Private Collections
Jaergerpris Castle, a former residence of King Frederik VII and his morganatic wife Countess Danner, is today a historic house museum. It is also noted for its park.

Jaegers Castle dates back to the 13th century and was used for most of its history as a royal hunting lodge. The monarchy had to cede the estate to the state in 1849 (abolishment of the crown estates), however King Frederik VII bought it back as a private retreat for Countess Danner and himself. After his death she opened part of the castle for the public in honour of her late husband. On her death she bequeathed the estate to a foundation in favour of Poor Women from the Working Class.
