Murska Sobota Castle, dating back to 1255, is housing since 1956 the regional Pomurje Museum of Murska Sobota. The museum offers a permanent exhibition about the life of the people of the Mur, from the first settlement to the present, various thematic exhibitions, as well as workshops and various programs for children and adults.

Murska Sobota Castle was owned from 1365 until the 17th century by the counts Széchy, whereas in 1687 it came into the hands of the Hungarian noble Peter Szapáry. In 1934, the municipality of Murska Sobota bought it from his descendants.

The castle is surrounded by a 9 ha landscape park.
