Velika Nedelja Castle (Burg Großsonntag) was built around 1200 on request of Friedrich of Ptuj in 1190, as a defence against the Hungarians. The battle between the Teutonic Knights and the Hungarians occurred on Easter Sunday. Velika Nedelja means Holy Sunday in Slovenian.
Today, the Teutonic Order is still the owner of the castle, which houses the Ethnological Collection of the Regional Museum Ptuj-Ormož, as well as the exhibition Velika Nedelja through the centuries. The castle is also a venue for religious wedding ceremonies in the castle's church, Church of the Holy Trinity, or outdoors in the yard.
