Open Air Museum Stübing (Freilichtmuseum Stübing), part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum and opened in 1970, is dedicated the preservation of Austria's rural life and work, its rural architecture and its forms of settlement from all over Austria, including around a hundred original farm buildings, set on 65 ha in a remote tributary valley by the River Mur.
The museum has been set up by the plans of Professor Viktor Herbert Pöttler, whereas its presentation is based on the declaration of the Association of European Open-Air Museums AEOM and the scientific and pictorial commission of open-air museums.
