Wimpole Hall

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Wimpole Hall dates back to the 11th century but the present house was completed in 1650. Wimpole has known many aristocratic owners. Its last private owners, Captain George and Mrs Elsie Bambridge, having no children, donated the Hall and 2,015 ha (3,000 acres) to the National Trust in 1976.

Mrs Elsie Bambridge was the daughter of Rudyard Kipling, the famous writer.

The collection you can admire today, was mainly brought together by the Brambridges, who were seeking out pieces that were either once at Wimpole or had strong connections to the estate or previous owners.

The Hall's outdoors includes pleasure grounds, a walled garden and parterre. The extensive home farm includes a wide range of rare breed animals, goats, cattle, sheep, pigs and horses. There are five Shire horses, used for carriage rides, experience days and ridden work, such as musical ride displays.
