Grão Vasco National Museum

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
The Grão Vasco National Museum, founded in 1915 by Francisco de Almeida Moreira, features a remarkable collection of paintings by Vasco Fernandes (c. 1475-1542), also known as the famous Grão Vasco, and his main collaborator, Gaspar Vaz.

In addition, the museum contains a large number of objects and images originally intended for use in liturgical ceremonies, as well as 19th-century Portuguese paintings, Portuguese faience, Oriental porcelain and furniture.

The Grão Vasco Museum is housed in the former bishop’s Renaissance palace, Paço dos Três Escalões, the palace adjacent to the city’s cathedral.
