Jelgavas Palace

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
The Jelgavas Palace is the former residence of the Dukes of Courland and Zemgale until 1795 when Courland was absorbed by Russia. It was built by famous Russian court architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, who also was the architect of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg.

The palace has been renovated after WW II and houses today the University of Agriculture (LLU) and a museum. The museum tells the story of the palace and displays archaeological founds from excavations carried out in the area.

In addition, other cultural events are hold at the palace such as exhibitions and concerts such as the solo concert of Sonora Vaice, the LLU artistic ensemble, the Student Folk Festival, and others.
