Leith Hill Place is a Palladian house, built around 1760 by Richard Hunt. In 1847 it was acquired by Josiah Wedgwood and later inherited by the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. He gave to the National Trust in 1944.
The woodland park was planted with rhododendrons by the wife of Josiah Wedgwood, Caroline Darwin. Her great uncle Charles, conducted experiments in the grounds.
The builder of the house, Richard Hunt, is buried in the Leith Hill Tower, which raises the hill above Ft 1000 (305 m) above sea level.
