Residence Palace Weimar was the residence of the dukes of Saxe-Weimar and Eisenach. Since 1923, the palace is used a museum with a focus on paintings of the 15th and 16th centuries and works of art related to Weimar as cultural centre.
The museum is centered around the former grand ducal art collection with works dating from the Middle Ages to modern times (around 1900). Along with the ducal family’s private chambers, the West wing houses the poets’ rooms, in honour of the great poets of Weimar: Christoph Martin Wieland, Johann Gottfried Herder, Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
The palace is part of the World Heritage Site "Classical Weimar".
