Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Royal Palace museum Capodimonte, now a museum, was one of the two Royal palaces in Naples. It was a summer palace, hunting lodge and residence for the Kings of Two Sicilies and later for the House of Savoy.
Building started in 1738 and it took until 1840 before it was finished as we know it today. The two royals houses filled it with extensive art collections like the builder of the site, Charles VII of Naples, who had inherited the fabulous Farnese art collection from his mother. Also the House of Savoy added considerably to the collections.
The Royal Apartments house beautiful furniture, paintings, porcelain and majolica.
The palace has an extensive park of 134 ha.
