Scotney Castle, has been in the hands of the Hussey family from 1778 until 1970, and dates back to 1137. There is a medieval, moated mansion on a little island, Scotney Old Castle, and a newer mansion, built between 1835 and 1843, Scotney New Castle.
The house is surrounded by a romantic garden, walled garden, the Old Castle with its romantic garden, and a 312 ha (770 acres) wooded estate.
