Kapfenstein Castle was built from the 10th to the 11th century by the Counts Kapfenstein as a border fortress against the attacks from the East. It has changed hands several times and is since 1918 owned by the Winkler-Hermaden family, who converted the castle into a hotel and restaurant in the 1960s.
