Svihov Castle
Castles & Country Houses
Švihov Castle (Schwihau) dates from 1480 and nowadays administered by the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ). It has been restored and open to the public, evoking the atmosphere of an inhabited late medieval aristocratic manor.
The castle was built in 1480 by Půta of Švihov, the judge royal of Bohemia and came later in the hands of House of Černín until its confiscation in 1947.
The building complex consists of two residential palaces, five-level entrance tower and a chapel. Its interior displays late Gothic and Renaissance furnishings, whereby the visitors can admire the castle’s armoury, the kitchen, the feast hall, the chapel, the bed chambers and The Great Hall with wonderful wooden cassette ceiling.
